Através do Fado
As one of the few male representatives of the contemporary fado scene, Telmo Pires fills large concert halls in Germany, most recently the Chamber Music Hall of the Berlin Philharmonie, the Philharmonie Essen, the Peterskirche in Leipzig and the Laeiszhalle in Hamburg. His individual approach has delighted audiences and the media alike. "Telmo Pires appears not only as a new voice, but also as a new 'image' of male fado", wrote the Portuguese magazine Nova Gente back in 2016. Die Welt described Pires as "a magician of his genre" and the WAZ wrote: "There are voices that almost take shape, filling a room with physical presence. Telmo Pires' is one of them."
Através do Fado, which translates as "through fado", is the name Pires has given his latest album. The title can be read ambiguously; it reflects Pires' personal relationship with fado as well as its versatility. "Fado means destiny," states Telmo Pires, "it brought me to Lisbon ten years ago. I express myself artistically in this music, I see the country, the way I live and the way I love through fado."
