As a conductor, Hansjörg Albrecht is internationally recognized above all as a passionate specialist for Bach and the opulent music of the 18th century, but as an all-round musician he consistently goes his own way - between archive and new creation, with an extensive repertoire ranging from Bruckner and Wagner to Olivier Messiaen, numerous world premieres and a soft spot for forgotten composers such as the Bach sons, Hans Rott, Walter Braunfels and Mieczysław Weinberg. With his organ transcriptions, he established himself as a specialist among the virtuosos of his instrument. Albrecht conducted the Munich Bach Choir and the Munich Bach Orchestra from 2005 to 2023 and led the ensemble to new international fame. From 2021 to 2023, Albrecht was also Principal Guest Conductor at the Teatro Petruzzelli Bari.
As part of his concert activities, he regularly works with internationally renowned artists and orchestras - currently with Jan Vogler, Christian Gerhaher, Michael Volle, Sergei Nakarjakov, Reinhold Friedrich, Lucas & Arthur Jussen, Mikhail Pletnev, Dmitry Masleev and Andrea Lucchesini, among others, Orchestras such as the Bremen Philharmonic, the Staatskapelle Halle, the Nuremberg Symphony Orchestra, the Hangzhou Philharmonic Orchestra, the Suzhou Symphony Orchestra, the Orchestra della Arena di Verona, the Orchestra Sinfonica Siciliana, the Dresdner Kapellsolisten and original sound ensembles such as the Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin, Concerto Köln, the Dresden Festival Orchestra, the Handel Festival Orchestra Halle and the Lautten Compagney Berlin.

Hansjörg Albrecht is a member of the board of the Neue Bach-Gesellschaft Leipzig. He is also artistic director of the International Online Organ Festival (IOOF), which took place for the first time worldwide in 2022 under the patronage of UNESCO, as well as the 99th Bach Festival of the New Bach Society in Munich in 2025.
As a conductor and organist, he has released over 40 CDs on the Oehms Classics label and has been nominated for the GRAMMY Award, among others. In 2024, Albrecht completed the world's first complete production of all Bruckner symphonies as organ transcriptions with the recording of Anton Bruckner's early study symphony in Paris, which he has recorded for the Oehms Classics label since 2020 at original European venues such as St. Florian, Linz, Vienna, Munich, Leipzig, Lucerne, Zurich and London. Albrecht supplemented his complete recording with 11 commissioned compositions in the form of "Bruckner windows" by internationally renowned composers. He was named one of the leading Bruckner interpreters by the classical music magazine Crescendo (annual edition 2024).
The "Goldberg Variations" are a monument of late Baroque music and a major work of literature for keyboard instruments - in terms of its dimensions, compositional demands and the demands on the virtuosity and expressive ability of the performer.
