At a time when the ideals of freedom, justice and peace are constantly being called into question, music and words can become spaces for reflection and debate.Can You Hear the People?, presented by the Ensemble Vocal du Luxembourg under the direction of Matthias Rajczyk in collaboration with the students of the Lycée Classique d'Echternach under the direction of Georges Urwald, is an invitation to reflect together on these values, which form the foundation of our humanity and our democracy.

This project is more than just a musical performance: it brings to life an intergenerational, interdisciplinary dialogue. In preparation for this evening, the students explored the topics of the programme in literature, art and musical creation. In response to these socio-politically engaged works, they composed pieces of their own, expressing their own perspectives and hopes for the future.

The programme includes works of extraordinary power, each conveying a universal message. From Frank Ticheli's ‘Earth Song’, a lament against the devastation of war, to Ethel Smyth's ‘The March of the Women’, an emblem of the fight for women's rights, to Hanns Eisler's ‘Gegen den Krieg’ (Against the War), which denounces the madness of war, each piece tells of stories and struggles that continue to have meaning today. Works such as Bob Chilcott's ‘MLK’ or Philip Glass's ‘Quand les Hommes Vivront d'Amour’ call for hope and solidarity and imagine a world in which justice and peace triumph.
